Ashford In the Water
The historic village of Ashford in the Water is situated on the River Wye. The parish church dates back to the 13th Century and the picturesque Sheepwash Bridge is medieval. It is so called due to the ancient annual practice of Sheepwashing: placing lambs in a pen on one side of the river, inducing the ewes to swim across the river to them, giving them a nice bath in the process. The bridge has also been named by VisitEngland as the best location in the country to play the popular family pursuit of Poohsticks!
