THE VILLAGE

Within an hour from Sheffield, Chesterfield, Buxton and the outskirts of Manchester, Ashford in the Water makes for the perfect, convenient escape.

WELL DRESSING

Every year, around Trinity Sunday, the six wells in Ashford in the Water are blessed in precession. To mark the occasion the village spends the weeks leading up to the event working tirelessly to dress the wells. This is done by pressing natural materials, such as petals, pine cones and pebbles, into slabs of wet clay. The finished designs neatly frame the ancient wells and are on display for one week only! This is one of the most popular times to stay in the village, so make sure to book ahead..

BAKEWELL

About a mile down the river from the village is the medieval market town of Bakewell. Famous, of course, for the pudding, Bakewell is a bustling little town, with many more delicacies to offer. It boasts tearooms, delis, bakeries and pie shops a'plenty, with the best fish and chips to be found inland! Monday is market day, so make sure you head down to the Agricultural Centre to see the finest beasts of the Peak District.
